DIY Annual Birthday Photo Shoots

I started a little tradition with my kids back when Rose was an itty bitty. I love cake smash photo shoots for 1st birthdays, but I also decided to also do a little photo shoot every year a few days before the birthday party. The photo shoot always goes along with whatever theme the party for that year is. Once it's done I pick a photo from the session and add in some words that describe little milestones, likes, dislikes, and whatever else I can think of regarding that child for that year. I think that this is a great way to keep track of little memories that you might otherwise someday forget. It's also a sweet thing for the child to have once they're much older.

You don't have to be a professional photographer to take nice photos of your kids. Pinterest has a TON of little tutorials and tips for taking awesome indoor and outdoor photos. Some of them even use an iPhone camera! I have a super old Nikon D60 that I purchased a billion years ago. There have been like 738 newer models to come out after my camera but mine still gets the job done and I really love it.

My daughter's cake smash photo shoot wasn't themed like her 1st birthday party because I only came up with the idea to keep up with the themed yearly shoots after her first birthday. Either way, her cake smash was adorable. If you follow my blog then you've already seen the post about my son Lennon's cake smash and birthday party. Click here for his cake smash and click here for his party.

Here are the yearly birthday photos I've taken of my daughter Rose so far starting with her cake smash. I'm only going to post the photos where I add the wording. If you want to see all of the photos from the yearly photo shoots then they'll be included in each entry that I make for the individual party. I use PicMonkey to add the words to my photos.

Lennon just turned 1 a few days ago so he only has one photo shoot so far, but here it is:
